So you want to protect some bottoms but aren't sure how? Here's a guide to being part of the Uke Defense Squad
- Be respectful when engaging in uke defense. No need to insult other users because bottoms AND readers deserve to be treated with respect.
- Learn to spot when a uke is in need of protection. Are people in the comments calling them pathetic/spineless/annoying? Good sign that a uke is in need. Is the seme practically committing war crimes but the comment section keeps talking about how much they hate the uke? Definitely a uke in need of protection. Is the uke being vilified for engaging in the same behaviour as the seme, but the seme receives nothing but love? Girl, get in there!
- Make sure you understand the character's behaviour. The best way to defend a uke is by explaining why they have engaged in the behaviour that is being criticized. For example, did Hyesung from Love is an Illusion engage is some poor behaviour and make a lot of bad choices? Yes. But every single one of those bad choices stem from an incredibly traumatic life and being forced into a situation he didn't want to be in. Plus he was only 19 years old (universal age) Noone makes good decisions at 19.
- Hold semes accountable. If we're criticizing characters let's make sure everyone is getting that same energy. Letting tops off the hook for their bad behaviour just because they're hot is a no go in the UDS, unless you'll do the same for a uke. It's equal opportunity poor judgment and behaviour over here.
- Have fun. It's genuinely not that deep I just happen to have the most fun when I'm engaging someone in a debate about something that isn't that deep.
