Common for the genre:
- powers/traits given to them by a system (awakening) after sudden portals/towers/rifts appear one day
- rankings where S or L is the strongest hunter/power
- guilds/organisations consisting of hunters
- portals/towers/rifts contains monsters and valuable resources, and as such are regularly conquered
- in some stories the monsters can escape through the rifts
- regular modern world setting otherwise
